Not for the first time this season, certain members have decided to 'net' on the square outside the usual designated times of Tuesday evenings (official team practice on the near edge of the square) and Friday evenings (U15's on the 'junior' edge of the square)
The most recent occasion was last Sunday when members netted in the middle of the square, and on a strip being prepared for the forthcoming matches. Being damp the strip has been ruined and now cannot be used for a match. A previous occasion also wrecked a strip for the season.
   At a time when the club hasn't a regular groundsman and so just a couple of club members are attempting to maintain it themselves, these unofficial practices are not only damaging the square and thus making extra work for these members, but are unnecessary (we have Tuesday practices) and selfish (the guilty parties don't help to prepare pitches). They also encourage non-members to use the square for other uses e.g football. For many true cricketers the square is sacrosanct and even official net practices on the square should be forbidden.
Therefore members (as has always been the situation) are not allowed to net on the square without permission. This can be obtained from John Stockley 07740 369415.
Disregarding this request will mean that all involved will be reported to the Management Committee for appropriate action.

After Tuesday's friendly match, some Dalton players not only decided to dash off (leaving jobs for non-players to do), but also decided not to pay the £3 match fee.
The team was:- J. Capstick, C. Youngman, G. Youngman, C. Comerford, B. Fletcher, G. Walker (jnr), P. Bain, A. Barton, A Burton, B. Norbury, A. N. Other. If any team member has difficulty in paying the match fee, please see the Committee.

The recent superb umpire's course run by Jeremy Rowe and Tom Wilson produced the following interesting fact:
If there is no white line between boundary flags / markers, it is assumed that the boundary is a straight line between successive flags / markers.

Last week 1st XI skipper Dave Martland had a very serious farm accident and was 'helicoptered' to 'The Royal Blackburn' hospital for operations to pin a broken right femur and a badly broken upper left arm. Fortunately there were no internal injuries.
Dave is doing well and chirpy as usual, and is looking forward next season to rising to the no.10 spot in the batting order !

Dalton is looking for a groundsman to maintain its square that in recent seasons has constantly been the envy of visiting teams.
As we have an assistant groundsman, and players will mark creases + boundary lines before the game, and brush + roll after, the groundsman can concentrate on producing an excellent square without having to 'live at the club'.

With 2 large sponsorships in negotiations, and the possibility of reviving its U'15's squad, Dalton is looking to strengthen its 3 teams and juniors in 2008.
Any players (senior + junior) disaffected with their own club; wanting to re-ignite their cricket careers; or wanting to start their kids (girl or boy) off in a club renowned for its traditional cricket values of friendliness, fair play and family-spirit, (as well as having fabulous views) please contact Dave Halsey on 01744 752252.

At the end of this season Gary Southworth is giving up his Club duties as Groundsman, Hon Sec, Website administrator, Membership sec and League rep.
If any Dalton members are interested in 'said' duties, please contact any of the Management Committee, Dave Gaskell or Capts + v-c's, for a brief 'job description'.

We can photocopy favourite matches for you, but at the end of the day they do belong to the Club and should be accessible for all to see.
